Title: Poser Nation?
Description: Mainstream
GG - May 23, 2006 01:00 AM (GMT)
Okay this is sort of a rant of my own opinions (which of course is the emphasis of the section, right?).
Okay I'm talking about the mass of music poserness in the mainstream: I'm talking about I think there is a incredible shortage of originality in music these days...
Okay lets take modern rock for example. Ever listen to Godsmack? Well listen to some other 'hard' rock bands...They sound just the same. Hell, even general Creed sounds like them. All the 'hard' rock bands sound the same. May'be its the fact that I hate 'hard rock'. It seems so stupid: All the lyrics are about hating, about rage, about 'leave me alone get away you fucking bitch', and about politics. System of a Down....well this makes myself even wonder but I like these gents. They have a slightly original twist to the incredibly unversatile hard rock sound: They change tembo, they actually sing, and they actually play music rather than having screaming the whole time (however they still do the raging scream that is so seemingly comfortable any more). However SOAD still lacks in what all bands these days lack: LYRICS.......God I hate all these lyrics. They're all the same. Stupid simple shit lyrics. Fucking christ...
Okay now lets go to rap....This bothers me the most. I can't stand it anymore. People complain that "The Lemon Song" by Led Zeppelin is controversial or "Lucy in the Sky of Diamonds" is all about LSD. Man those people. Rap these days or hip hop or whatever you want to call it is much more sexual and controversial. It makes the common woman look degraded and used as a sex object.
Now the thing is I love rap if it is with real instruments...these days its all about finding a freaking loop and putting some badly muttered rap onto it. Rap is dying. Rock is dying.
Okay then go to pop. Pop is pop. Its always been about having fun. But now its dripped down into being called rock: Lets take Fall Out Boy, Blink 182 Simple Plan, the god awful Click 5....Even Green Day (which was a poppier hardcore style of punk) is now pop rock. Pop Rock is okay....Okay pop rock. Woohoo. But the thing is is that people think that pop rock is punk rock which it is not. Punk Rock is also dying: Lets see how many real punk bands there are in the mainstream: Not very many. Green Day's Nimrod album and Insomniac album was a punk album actually. Any other Green Day albums beside some of their EPS are very slide slit from punk.
So whats my point here? Im saying that all these bands are sounding the same. All this music is basically the same repeated thing over and over again. I hate it. Thats why I turn to early 90's, 60's, and 70's music. Thats when everyone was still good and rock was still rock (however the 90's, even early 90's, was stilll breathing unoriginality. Grunge died short after 1996 it seems). When originality was king was during these decades.
Okay...I hope you can read all that.

Music today just doesn't have a long lasting appeal. I get tired of music today, but I will still listen to Led Zeppelin any day, it was so legendary.
I'm sick of System of a Down, and dare I say it, Avenged Sevenfold. If you listen to a band too much, you'll get sick of them pretty quick and you have to wait until a new album comes out to get back into them. Great example is Linkin Park. I used to listen to them all the times until a year after their second album came out. Now it's been over three years and I still don't listen to them.
Rap is getting old too, yes. I agree with you. How many times can you sing about banging your ho's and "shooting n*ggas". I don't really know what to expect from the music industry in the future. Heopfully a new style will come out that will revolutionize rock/rap/pop as we know it. ^_^
Added - Another thing that really pisses me off is that artists today get away with recording 3 minute songs and getting them turned into singles. Whatever happened to songs that actually had more than 3 verses and were over 5 minutes? It seems groups today are just interested in making money and not doing it for the good of music. If you go buy a new cd, chances are there will only be 2-3 songs worth listening to. I think that's crap. And they complain that we pirate music? Hell, maybe if you put a few more good tracks on your cd, people would consider buying it.

SOAD sucks nowadays. Political Views and Music does not mix. I understnad how that one guy is trying to protest Armenian Genocide because his Grandfather is an escaped prisoner. But dont bitch about it in music.
Led Zeppelin will always be one of my favorites. They are fucking legends. But I hate all these posers who wear their shirts and dont know diddly squat about them or their music. Posers will always be frowned upon.
Mainstream rock sucks. Its all these fucking morons who fuck it up for everyone. Those fucking MTV bands. Yes, that Includes Slipknot. Slipknot is overrated. However, the vocalist Corey Taylor has an Amazing Singing voice. Joey Gordison's Drumming kicks ass. And thats all the positive comments I have about them. Then you have those fucking emo bands. That totally suck. They bring this generation of emo kids and Hot Topic Posers into the scene.
Rap, Shut the fuck up. Makes no sense nowadays. Im tired of hearing these assholes bitch about the ghetto. Some of them arent even from the ghetto. You got them bitching about how hard it was for them growing up. How they sold and did drugs. And supposedly they dont do it anymore. They give off this faggot ass fashion statement about namebrands. They promote gang activity. These gangs serve no fucking purpose. And yet, they rap about it. Just to get that "Street Cred" and sell a couple million albums. Why do you think Rap artists dont have concerts often? Yep, you guessed it. Gang Activity. You cant go to a rap concert without someone getting shot. Rap is not music. Its some illiterate mother fucker reading poetry with some synthiesized beats in the background.
P.S.- DK is a poser. :P

Rap IS Music.
And about that synthiesized beats part. It's not all rap songs that have been produced by a computer beat program. I don't see why rock fans are complaining about this
And about the rapping part: It's all that gangsta rap that is ruining everything in Hip Hop (Which I blame N.W.A. for the creation of it) & the dirty south.
But there ARE a lot of rappers that raps about good topics, like: Poetry, Politics, Wars Etc.
Here's a Political verse by Immortal Technique:
I pledge no allegiance, Ni**a fuck the president's speeches
I'm baptized by America and covered in leeches
The dirty water that bleaches your soul and your facial features
Drownin' you in propaganda that they spit through the speakers
And if you speak about the evil that the government does
The Patriot Act'll track you to the type of your blood
They try to frame you, and say you was tryna sell drugs
And throw a federal indictment on niggaz to show you love
This shit is run by fake Christians, fake politicians
Look at they mansions, then look at the conditions you live in
All they talk about is terrorism on television
They tell you to listen, but they don't really tell you they mission
They funded Al-Qaeda, and now they blame the Muslim religion
Even though Bin Laden, was a CIA tactician
They gave him billions of dollars, and they funded his purpose
Fahrenheit 9/11, that's just scratchin' the surface
And a Poetic verse By Common:
I want to be as free as the spirits of those who left
I'm talking Malcom, Coltrane, my man Yusef
Through death through conception
New breath and resurrection
For moms, new steps in her direction
In the right way
Told inside is where the fight lay
And everything a Ni**a do may not be what he might say
Chicago nights stay, stay on the mind
But I write many lives and lay on these lines
Wave the signs of the times
Many say the grind's on the mind
Shorties blunted-eyed and everyone wanna rhyme
Bush pushing lies, killers immortalized
We got arms but won't reach for the skies
Waiting for the Lord to rise
I look into my daughter's eyes
And realize that I'ma learn through her
The Messiah, might even return through her
If I'ma do it, I gotta change the world through her
Furs and a Benz, gramps wantin 'em
Demons and old friends, pops they hauntin' him
The chosen one from the land of the frozen sun
When drunk nights get remembered more than sober ones
Walk like warriors, we were never told to run
Explored the world to return to where my soul begun
Never looking back or too far in front of me
The present is a gift
and I just wanna BE
___
Talented stuff eh? Now let's check out the kind of rap music that you're judging rap by:
Here's a verse by 50 Cent:
Give it to me baby, nice and slow
Climb on top, ride like you in a rodeo
You ain't never heard a sound like this before
Cuz I ain't never put it down like this
Soon as I come through the door, she kept pulling on my zipper
It's like a race, who can get undressed quicker
Isn't it ironic, how erotic it is to watch her in thongs
Had me thinking about that ass after I'm gone
I touched the right spot at the right time
Lights on or lights off, she like it from behind
So seductive, you should see the way she whine
Her hips in slow mo on the floor when we grind
No she ain't stopping homie and I ain't stopping
Dripping wet with sweat, man it's on and popping
All my champagne campaign, bottle after bottle, it's on
And we gonna sip that heavy bubble man, every bottle is gone
LMAO! I see why you hate rap, It's becuase of these dumb ass stuff that these mainstream rappers raps about today.
But, You just need to take some time (If you want to), And listen to some of these good rappers
There are some rock fans who likes to listen to such rap artists like: MF Doom, Mos Def, Common, Immortal Technique & RZA.
Trust me, those rappers I mentioned above are Excellent rappers.

Sorry for the long post, but If you don't know much about a certain Genre. It would be wise not to talk shit about it.
You don't see me diss rock music, That's because I don't know much about it & therefore trying to keep my mouth shut. But mostly I don't say anything because of the respect I have for other peoples music taste.

^ I agree.
Before you bash on rap... you should hear the other people that don't make synthesized music for their music... Just like Kanye west, all beats on his songs was not made from a machine but was from his own talent. :ninja: :ninja:
Don Ice - May 23, 2006 07:11 PM (GMT)
^ thanks for the info about Kanye West, lol, never knew
And here's a pic of J-Dilla sitting in front of his drums (R.I.P).

I'll post more pic of producers using their instrumental to create their beats.
Kingturtle2007 - May 23, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
Yeah, rockers don't go and get some underground music that was about poetry and politics and stuff like that since all they see is the rap that is mainstream just like 50 cent and all his other rap friends as well... :ninja: :ninja:
KITT - May 23, 2006 09:19 PM (GMT)
I was actually ranting about Popular Mainstream Artists. The Undergound stuff actually make sense. That verse by Immortal Technique is pretty damn nice. I got to give them a listen. ;)

Ok rap sucks,no questions asked(and Ice before you get all pms about this remember i dont care what you think about rock music so you sohludnt care what i think about rap)
I think rock music nowadays is taking a turn for the better, once all the kids get out of the emo phase and start listening to some fucking metal, there are alot of class metal actas coming out of the woodwork in recent years and i think its only a matter of time till it reches the mainstream again, and most purists will think this is a bad thing, cos they`re too cool to listen to the mainstream, but they can get fucked, you canr hate a band cos they got popular, also jsut becasue you like the mainstream doenst automatically make you a poser, often mainstream is jsut a stepping stone for people to get into the more underground or lessr known artists of the same genre.
ao in short mainstream isnt bad, unless its rap or dance or trance, then its all shit, full stop.

I agree that rap sucks unless it is done the old fashioned way, with real instruments and with lyrics that actually meant something more than a vulgar exploitation on women's sexuality or how much "bling bling" you have.
Now rock music I dont agree. I think its sadly dying unless this stupid goddamn poppy punk and emo stuff dies as a phase. As you said I think that eventually it'l be come something more but not neccesarily enough "metal". Hell, we dont know but I can tell that real rock "I'm talking about Black Sabbath, Guns N' Roses, The Who, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, Metallica, Van Halen, The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and The Kinks just to name a few) is slowly going to become more that the fucking rap has spread: MUSIC THAT is more synthesized than anything. Lets say the "New Wave" music that some people are talking about: Rock that is mixed with kind of a techno touch. I hate it but orginality is such a problem in the mainstream right now I dont want to listen to most of the current artists. Thats what a large part of this I'm talking about: Originality. Listen to all those emo bands regardless of their quality, and you'll hear the same music. You watn diference in music because diference PROVIDES originality which provides for new and better rock or a reversion fo the old rock (Lets say all the bands I already listed).

Not entirely correct. Posers are usually into something for the cool factor from everyone else. Or they try to be something they're not.
G-funk on the other hand is far frrom a poser. He's into his music a lot. He just doesnt get his facts straight. Which is cool. I can tolerate that. :)
